Purebaby x Redkite: making a lasting difference

At the core of the Purebaby brand, our mission is to help parents on their journey in and throughout parenthood. Outside of the expected challenges we all face as new parents, there are also the unexpected challenges. Redkite is a fantastic organisation, doing amazing work to support these families and we are very proud to partner with as a way to bring further awareness and support to those parents and families who are going through extremely tough times.

A Partnership with Heart

Redkite gives families the strength and support they need to face the challenge of childhood cancer. For over 40 years, they have helped put food on the table, fuel in the car, and provided critical information and counseling support to the entire family unit. Purebaby is honoured to partner with Redkite, contributing a portion of our sales to help fund these critical services. Last year, Redkite supported over 2,400 individuals with their essential support services. Through this partnership, we aim to bring comfort and care to families during the most challenging time in their lives.

Cassandra and Rose’s Story

Here we share the inspiring story of Cassandra and her daughter, Rose. Their journey with childhood cancer, the challenges they faced, and the incredible strength and love that guided them through difficult times will serve as a testament to the impact of Redkite's support and the importance of partnerships like ours.

When Cassandra’s daughter Rose was diagnosed with cancer at age three, their entire world turned upside down.

“Rose just kept complaining to me that she had a sore neck, and I thought she'd scratched the back of her neck. It was a big lump on her neck and then we took her straight to the emergency department. She got significantly worse really quickly after being sent home a couple of times, she got admitted to hospital. It took three weeks to get a diagnosis” says mum Cassandra.

Travelling from Tweed to the hospital in Brisbane, they had to leave behind Rose’s identical twin sister, Lilly with their dad George and rent an additional home to stay close to the hospital for treatment. Rose went through six cycles of chemotherapy over six months. Not only were Rose and Lilly separated, but Cassandra was also apart from her three-year-old daughter Lilly for three months straight. This took a toll on everyone.

Cassandra was introduced to Redkite when Rose was first admitted to hospital after she received the Red Bag, packed full of essential items to help make the hospital stay that little bit easier.

It wasn’t until Rose finished treatment, returned home, and things were returning to normal that Cassandra started noticing changes in both Rose and Lilly’s behaviours. The girls were showing signs of severe separation anxiety, were having trouble sleeping, and were struggling with anger and aggression. Unsure of what to do, Cassandra reached out to Redkite to enquire about counselling sessions for both Rose and Lilly.

“My twins cried every day that cancer kept them apart. Because of your generous support, our Redkite Social Worker helped them cope.”

After experiencing Redkite’s Child Counselling program, Rose was no longer anxious at bedtime and the girls' sleeping routines improved. Rose now allows Mum to cuddle Lilly at night without feeling stressed or alone.

Today, Rose is doing well. The family is living in Tweed and has since welcomed their daughter Daisy, who is now two-years-old.

“There is no more crying at school drop-off. Rose and Lilly are both more confident and they feel safe at school. They're both starting to try new things like letting me pick them up at the gate as opposed to picking them up at the classroom door. There has been a dramatic improvement in Lilly’s anger and aggression because she feels safer and more settled at school and this has now transferred across at home.”
