That’s why we are honoured to once again partner with Redkite, an incredible organisation that provides critical emotional, financial, and practical support to families navigating the unimaginable journey of childhood cancer. We are proud to help raise awareness and extend support to parents and families facing such difficult times.
A Partnership with Heart
Redkite gives families the strength and support they need to face the challenge of childhood cancer. For over 40 years, they have helped put food on the table, fuel in the car, and provided critical information and counselling support to the entire family unit.Purebaby is honoured to partner with Redkite, contributing a portion of our sales to help fund these critical services. Last year, Redkite supported over 2,400 individuals with their essential support services. Through this partnership, we aim to bring comfort and care to families during the most challenging time in their lives.
Janelle and Daphne’s Story
This year, we’re sharing the inspiring story of Janelle and her daughter, Daphne. Their journey with childhood cancer, the challenges they faced, and the incredible strength and love that guided them through difficult times serve as a testament to the impact of Redkite's support and the importance of partnerships like ours.
Janelle, her husband Riley, and their daughters Briella and Daphne were enjoying family life when, at just three years old, Daphne was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2023.
Janelle recalls, “My business was taking off and doing really well… My daughter had started kinder and was loving it. We had friends we were going out with and just enjoying summer.”
But when Daphne became pale, bruised, and unusually tired, followed by a swollen eye that sent them straight to hospital, their world changed overnight. After a harrowing day in emergency, doctors delivered the devastating news: Daphne had leukaemia. “Once the shock eased a little bit, it was just my husband and I, and we just completely broke down and were absolute wrecks and crying. It was probably just about the worst day of my life at this point.”
Daphne started treatment immediately and spent around six weeks in hospital. During this time, Janelle remembers, “a social worker handed us the Red Bag with all those lovely gifts in it to help us, and then she linked us in with Redkite. We were given Coles vouchers so we could buy food and not have too much of an expense there worrying about food. It took the pressure off.”
Later, Janelle accessed the Redkite Book Club for Daphne, which has become a much-loved part of their routine that they still use to this day. “Daphne will often pick a book and say, ‘I want to have a Redkite book tonight’ and she’ll find one with a little red sticker and we’ll read it together.”
Because of your generous support Redkite was there for Jannelle and helped her feel like she was “never fully alone”.
Redkite’s counselling services also became a lifeline. Janelle says, “The comfort of knowing there’s an extra layer of support with counselling and understanding that, if tomorrow I wake up and something happens, and I have a breakdown, I can reach out to Redkite, and they will support me and my family. It’s comforting, to know you have people in your corner.”
Today, Daphne has completed treatment, rang the bell in early 2024, and is back at school, enjoying dance classes and swimming lessons with her sister.
